CSA- Community Supported Agriculture

We combine our club meetings with our bi-monthly service project. CSA is essentially a partnership between food grower (South Coast Farm) and food consumer. Every other week, organic, fresh-picked produce is put into baskets and delivered to our drop off point in front of the Fullerton Arboretum. Members of the community that have signed up and pre-paid online come to this spot and pick up their basket. Anyone can sign up online for either a small or large basket of seasonal fruits and vegetables. Memberships are purchased and renewed on a quarterly basis. Visit http://southcoastfarms.com/csa.htm for more information or to sign up!

Walk on the Wild Side

This year, 7 CSUF students, friends, and family members walked together at the San Diego Zoo's 3rd annual Walk on the Wild Side 5k walk to help raise money for amphibians.

Here's a little clip from the official website:

"This year’s 3rd annual event will be focused on raising funds for the 2008 Year of the Frog campaign to mark a major conservation effort to address the amphibian extinction crisis. Frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, and caecilians are becoming extinct. In fact, the International Union of Conservation and Nature estimates that at least one-third of known amphibian species are threatened with extinction. While the major culprit has historically been habitat loss and degradation, many of the declines and extinctions are now being attributed to a rapidly dispersing infectious disease, which is causing population and species extinctions at an alarming rate."

International Day of Peace 9/21/08

On Sunday, Septemeber 21, 2008, Roots and Shoots members and friends all over the world came together to support the United Nations International Day of Peace.

----
From Dr. Jane Goodall:
"The Giant Peace Dove puppets—"flown" by young people and the young at heart in cities, towns, and villages near and far—are a symbol and celebration of peace and peace work"

"We remind everyone that peace is possible. We celebrate all that is free and noble in the human spirit. And we celebrate all that so many people have done throughout the year—and will do next year—to create a better world."
----
This year, a few CSUF Roots and Shoots members attended the event held in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, and here are some of the event photos:
